What is lean transformation?

Lean transformation is the entire applications of Lean & Six Sigma ( LSS) process in order to obtain operational excellence.

  • Lean aims to reduce the lead time by eliminating waste in the value stream by doing kaizen events. Lean methodology has continuous improvement approach and “action-based” applications.
  • 6Sigma is the set of statistical tools of detailed measurement, analysis and studies in order to control the variables in the value stream. It focuses on increasing the process capability.

Lean transformation, also called LSS, is combination of lean and six sigma concepts.

How long does lean transfromation journey take?

Lean transformation requires a cultural change. That is why it takes long time to implement. The decision maker must consider and accept the following before starting to implementations.

  • Lean is a long journey and one cannot get immediate result,
  • Lean is a cultural change and revolution. This can not be achieved without support of the management,
  • Lean is action based not slogan based. People should be encouraged and there must be a role model in upper management.

Otherwise, failure will be inevitable in the lean transformation process.

Lean transformation, which sector can be applied?

Muda and variables exist in every process. So, Lean transformation could be applied and adapted to any sector. The Lean transformation began in manufacturing industry; successful lean examples in the world exist today such as healthcare, finance and service industries. It becomes increasingly common and gets into all processes in our life.

How we will measure our success?

Each business has its own operational success criteria, Key Performance Indicators (KPI). These indicators are measured periodically and continuously followed up. All indicators in business operations are affected by one common denominator in the bottom right corner of the Income statement in financials, which is called profit. So as a result of the work done, if you have more profit you are successful, else you're not successful.
